Embodied Energy Team

The area of embodied energy analysis and indeed the entire field of life cycle assessment is still very much in a state of development. While International standards exist (ISO14040 series), there are still numerous approaches that are used and considered acceptable for conducting embodied energy analyses and the various forms and components of a life cycle assessment.

A comprehensive hybrid embodied energy assessment technique developed by Dr Robert Crawford at The University of Melbourne was used to inform the design of the 5x4 Project and quantify the embodied energy associated with the Project. E-Tool has also been used on the project to demonstrate the difference in the two approaches and provide further insight and awareness of the strengths and weaknesses of the various life cycle assessment approaches available and to further inform their development.
